Grand Final Event!

Bouldering at Harrogate Climbing Centre, YorkshireWe couldn’t let the end of Boulder Yorkshire pass without marking the event! So, the 30th of March will see a grand final at Harrogate Climbing Centre, with extra bonus problems and a stamina problem to offer the chance for some last-minute points as well as some more fun!

The end of the evening will also be the prize giving, so we can reward all those people who have worked so hard to get the top scores this winter, or who have made the most genuine improvement throughout the competition.

Festivities begin at 6pm on Friday the 30th of March and the prize giving will be after 9pm, when we have collated all the final scores.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Round 6 begins on Friday 2nd March

Bouldering at Yorkshire's premier climbing centreThe Final round of Boulder Yorkshire will begin on Friday with some great new problems from Dave Barrans. This last round will be a the last chance to improve your score before the grand final on Friday the 30th of March, so head on down and crank out those problems!

The prize fund is looking good, with prizes for the best improvement throughout as well as the top scores. So head on down and pull on those nice clean holds this weekend, let’s see how well you can do in this final round; it’s all to play for!

Start Training!

The newest addition at Boulder Yorkshire host Harrogate Climbing Centre is a new circuit board and Moon School Room board.

The board includes the official Moon Climbing holds arranged to give both pre-determined graded problems as well as the opportunity to make up your own training combinations and promotes contact strength. The board also offers stamina circuits through the grades, currently from 6a to 7c meaning the board can be used to train all-round fitness.

So if you are looking to train for Boulder Yorkshire, or for any aspect of your climbing, head on down to HCC and check out this new addition!

Round 4, it’s the biggest yet!

It’s a new year, and a new set of problems for Boulder Yorkshire!

Team GB member Dave Barrans will be setting a great new set of problems just for you, ready for the next round of the Boulder Yorkshire bouldering competition. Dave’s problems are becoming renowned throughout the county, and the UK, with other bouldering walls beginning to use him more and more in recognition of the quality that has been on offer throughout Boulder Yorkshire, but no other competition can offer problem set exclusively by the UK’s most experienced active competition climber!

The attendance for round three has been off the scale, with the highest number of competitors so far. The scores for round three will be compiled on Monday the 9th of January and published in the results section, so keep your eyes peeled!

The competition is hotting up, but the top spots are still open, with good scores in the next few rounds the competition could be yours, and we are keeping a good eye on the improver scores which will be rewarded with shiney gifts at the end of the competition; it’s all about taking part!

So head on down to Harrogate Climbing Centre from this Friday, the 6th of January and take part in Yorkshire’s friendliest bouldering competition!

12 Days of Christmas

Boulder Yorkshire Venue Harrogate Climbing Centre have an additional prize competition in the run up to Christmas.

Twelve Days, Twelve Problems, Twelve Prizes!

The Twelve Days of Christmas prize event runs every day from the 13th to the 24th of December. Each day, everyone entering the twelve problem competition will be entered into a draw to win one of a selection of prizes including:

  • SteepEdge movie downloads
  • Free entry to HCC
  • La Sportiva goodies

On the last day, the 24th of December, one of each prize will be combined with a pair of La Sportiva Solution rockboots for one lucky winner!

Round 3 is On!

As of the 3rd of December, Boulder Yorkshire will have a brand new set of problems set by World Cup climber and Team GB member Dave Barrans. The results from round two are up on the results page for you to check on your progress and see what you have to do in round three!

The wall now has a shiny new La Sportiva logo to reflect the main sponsorship of the competition; so be sure to keep competing, they have allocated some pretty cool prizes! We will begin to award improver prizes for those making the best progress through the competition from this round, so head on down, whether you are new to climbing or a seasoned competitor, there’s something for you to do.

 

 

Round 2 Begins Today!

Dave Barrans Setting Boulder Yorkshire Bouldering CompetitionSo round one was a huge success; thanks to everyone who came down and tried the problems, we will be posting the results as soon as we have collated the information.

Round two will begin tonight at Harrogate Climbing Centre, just as soon as Dave Barrans has finished setting the problems. He has been busy over the last two days creating interesting moves that will test every aspect of your climbing, they are just as technical as they are burly. In short, there’s something for everyone!

The problems will be ready from 6pm today, we hope to see you later!

And we’re off!

Last night saw the opening of the first set of Boulder Yorkshire problems at Harrogate Climbing Centre. Dave Barrans was wholly responsible for this first set, and from what we’ve seen so far, they’re going down well with climbers of all ages and abilities.

A huge thank you to the huge number of people who came along last night to support the opening of the competition, and for putting up with StudioLAX filming for the first half an hour. Keep your eyes peeled on the news section of the site for the video in the next day or so; it might provide some much needed beta!

Don’t forget, the whole idea of Boulder Yorkshire is to be the county’s friendliest bouldering competition. Whilst there are prizes for the strongest competitors, those making the biggest improvement will be rewarded too! So come on down and check out the first round. Each set of problems will be up for one month, and it’s free to take part, just pay your entry to the climbing centre!

 

Setting Starts on Thursday!

Bouldering competition hold and competition markerThe time has come! Dave Barrans will be beginning the set for the first round of Boulder Yorkshire this Thursday! Dave is one of the best setters in the country, drawing from his extensive experience setting for Manchester, Harrogate and Reading Climbing Centres over the past five years, he is also one of the most successful British Team climbers of his generation. Dave will be setting the Harrogate Climbing Centre bouldering room ready for competitors of all standards this week, with the competition opening on Friday evening from 6.30pm. Don’t forget there will be prizes for improvers and prize draws for all Boulder Yorkshire competitors, so make sure you enter each round for the most chances of winning!
